Karen I know you are only a month away from the big day but if you can swing
it try to get some better coffee equipment in your place.
DK makes a very good point and I would have to agree with him. Once again
everyone has different situations. Think about leasing the coffee equipment
and espresso machine. You can get into a 4 year lease with a buyout option
of 10% or $1.00 at the end of the term. Your looking at about 250 to 350 a
month in payments. This is a good option if you are short on start up
capital. I am not sure a regular coffee pot will cut it. I do about 20k a
month in gross sales and only 2k a month with the Internet side of the
business so in my case it does not pay the rent. There are plenty of
Internet Cafes out there that gross more than we do on the Internet side but
I am pretty sure the successful ones have either a restaurant, coffeehouse,
espresso bar, juice bar, cigar bar, etc integrated in their business to
bring in more volume. Anybody else in the U.S that has a similar set up like
Karen ( Internet generated volume 90% of gross sales) that is a success,
chime in, I may be way off here.
As far as grand opening tips, try to advertise the big day in you local or
neighborhood papers it is cheaper and hits people in your area. Send them a
press release you might even get a story written about you for free! I would
stay away from radio and TV. Too expensive. Try to get your local TV station
to do a spot on the local news, call up the station and see if they would be
interested and it would not cost you a dime. Blanket the area with flyers,
hit other business and neighborhoods.
Good Luck
