Scott,

Thanks for the info. and the http://linmodems.org link
too. Im no programmer, so it would have to pretty much
be built and set up from the start. I'm fine with
adding pieces, but not if I have to modify files. Once
I tried a firmware update/correction from 3Com and
while the guy was walking me through it, I was totally
lost. The hardware would be antique before I ever got
it assembled. :-(

The system I was looking for is like this:
P-III EB 866mhz 128megSDRAM (no DDR or RDRAM available
or the motherboard won't support it)
(Motherboards not listed)
Details:
OS= Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (they don't
ask what you want, not a choice)
Hard Drive 40GB 7200RPM Ultra ATA100 hard drive
(unlisted brand)
Modem 56K PCI Voice Modem (GVC brand)
Processor= Intel Pentium III Processor 866MHz with
Advanced Transfer Cache
Sound System = SoundBlaster Live! Value with Digital
Audio Output
Speakers = Boston Acoustics BA265
Monitor = Not Selected (have a ViewSonic 21PS)
Application Software:
Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business(but not If I can
get it not included)
Video = Integrated Intel i815e 3D Graphics with AGP
Card Upgradability (or a MATROX G400 AGPx4 32MB board
if they will allow)
Case New Gateway Mid-Tower Case
Keyboard = MSwindows natural elite
Controller Integrated Ultra ATA Controller (ATA-66/100
I hope)
Mouse = MS IntelliPoint Mouse and Gateway mouse pad
Anti-Virus Software = Norton Anti-Virus Software
(There's no choice, not even none, but I'd rather
system-works)
Software Packages WordPerfect Office 2000
Professional added: US$99 (I finally get to CHOOSE an
office suite if I pay extra for a second one)
Floppy Drive: 3.5" 1.44MB diskette drive
CD Drive: 20X min./48X max. CD-ROM drive (mystery
brand (the cheapest on the planet perhaps?))
IOMEGA 250MB Internal ZIP Drive w/1 Zip Disk
Ethernet: Adaptect 10/100 quad port ethernet card
(or no NIC because they got crap)

Well, let me know what you think about my choices in
hardware and how xNIXable you think it would be. I'd
love to have a choice of OS on boot...

Any insite on winOS choice? (98-II/me/2k/NT) ? Back
Office?

Thanks,
Brian Frasier.
