Perhaps this is a good time to "throw out" new (and mostly untested)
theories I have about adding new sources of revenue for cybercafes?

The first is in the area related to distance learning.

It could be that not many on this list are aware that there are
almost 200,000 college courses available on the Net, from accredited
sources. While the demand for these is growing, the supply exceeds
the demand so some aggressive marketing might yield universities
willing to give *very* substantial tuition breaks, especially for
non-American students. My guess is that if cybercafes made it clear
that there were courses from Harvard they could offer, - even for
free - that this is a revenue source that could be developed...if
only to hold "Distance Learning Nights once or twice a month. (One
day I will find a "partner" who would like to collar all the
cybercafes interested in this, then go out to the top 30 d/e providers
in the world with some kind of offer...anyone interested. I do know
all the players in the d/e world.)

The second part is to make it clear that your place
is an excellent place for virtual meetings.

There are a zillion conferences around the world, and more and more
are allowing virtual attendance. We hold one of the biggest virtual
conferences in the world, Global Learn Day, and do it VERY
affordably.I believe I would look to international business leaders,
particularly exporters who might see use you place to (virtually)
gather long distance customers. Perhaps a combination of courses
offered in your cafe related to international business would tap
those customers? The savings of virtual meetings are enormous yet
most business' owners don't yet realize it.

Yes,these will require headsets, or even a walled off area of your
cafe...though I know of one cafe where the owner gives up his private
office for virtual meetings - usually only a couple of executives
gather - but the fees can be reasonably high...just a matter of
marketing..methinks.

I am encouraging cybercafe participation in Global Learn Day, October
7. This is a 24 hour non stop webcast where a whole lot of tools,
technology and pretty with-it people from all 24 time zones show up.
