Si tu es pass en 10.1.5 Mac OS X: How to Troubleshoot Printing Issues Article ID: Created: Modified: 106714 2/5/02 4/26/02 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ TOPIC You can use the strategies in this document to troubleshoot printing issues in Mac OS X versions 10.0 and later. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ DISCUSSION Use these suggestions when there is no output from the printer at all. If the printer prints but has issues with print quality, try printing from another application. If the issue is isolated to one application, contact the software vendor first. If the issue occurs with many applications, contact the printer manufacturer. "AppleTalk is currently disabled" message If the message "No AppleTalk printers are available because AppleTalk is currently disabled" appears in Print Center, see technical document 106613: "Mac OS X: 'No AppleTalk Printers are Available" Message". Cannot Print or Add Printer, or Print Center Quits Unexpectedly If you experience this symptom, see technical document 106726, "Mac OS 10.1: Cannot Print or Add Printer, or Print Center Quits Unexpectedly". Be sure that you read through the rest of this document to eliminate other possible causes of not being able to print. "An unexpected error has occurred. -108" Alert Appears If you experience this symptom, see technical document 106726, "Mac OS 10.1: Cannot Print or Add Printer, or Print Center Quits Unexpectedly". Test page If your printer offers a test page feature, try to print one. If the test page will not print, turn the printer off and on then try again. Verify connection between power cord and power source. For more information on how to print a test page, review the documentation that came with your printer or look at the manufacturer's Web site. If printing a test page is unsuccessful, review the documentation that came with the printer for further troubleshooting steps specific to the printer. Delete old print jobs 1. Save the files you are trying to print. 2. Choose Print from the File menu. 3. Choose Edit Printer List from the Printer pop-up menu in the print dialog. 4. Double-click the default printer in the Printer List. The default printer is marked with a gray circle. 5. Select a print job, then click Delete. Repeat until all print jobs are deleted. 6. Try to print again. Try to print from another application If the issue occurs when printing from a Mac OS X-native application, try to print from another Mac OS X application, such as TextEdit. Can the issue be isolated to one application? If so, review the support documentation included with your printer or at its manufacturer's Web site. If the issue occurs when attempting to print from a Classic application, then try printing from other Classic applications, then from a Mac OS X-native application. Can the issue be isolated to one application or to the Classic environment? Check cables and connections 1. Disconnect and reconnect every cable between the computer and the printer. 2. Verify that the cable or cables are firmly inserted. 3. USB printers only: Switch the USB cable connection from the current USB port to another USB port. 4. Try to print again. Isolate the printer and computer USB printers 1. Disconnect all USB devices except the printer, Apple keyboard, and Apple mouse. Make sure the printer is connected directly to the computer, that any hubs or extender cables that may be in use are disconnected. 2. Be sure that the printer appears in Apple System Profiler (/Applications/Utilities/). Look for the printer in the Devices and Volumes tab of Apple System Profiler. 3. If another printer is available, try printing to it. Verify that the connections are solid, that network preferences are correct, and that the any required software for the additional printer is installed. Network printers 1. Verify that other network services, such as File Sharing and Web browsing, are available and functioning. 2. If the printer is an AppleTalk printer, verify that AppleTalk is active in the network pane of System Preferences. 3. If there is another node on the network that can successfully print to this printer, move the computer to this node. It may be necessary to change network settings at this point. 4. If another printer is available, try printing to it. Verify that the connections are solid, that network preferences are correct, and that the any required software for the additional printer is installed. Delete the printer from the printer list 1. Choose Print from the File menu. 2. Choose Edit Printer List from the Printer pop-up menu in the print dialog. 3. Select the affected printer in the Printer List. 4. Click Delete. 5. Add the printer back and try to print again. To add printers, see technical document 106707: "Mac OS X: How to Add a Printer to the Printer List" Delete all printers and print jobs Important: If you see a large number of printers in Print Center and are uncomfortable deleting all of them, contact your network administrator first. 1. Open Print Center (/Applications/Utilities/). The Printer List window appears. If you want to delete jobs, choose Show Queue from the Printers menu. 2. While pressing the Option key, choose Quit Print Center from the Print Center application menu. An alert box appears. 3. Click OK. All printers or print jobs are deleted. 4. Add a printer back and try to print again. Reinstall printer software If software for your printer was included with the Mac OS X installation, check the printer manufacturer's Web site for updated versions. If there is no update available, it is not necessary to reinstall the printer software. If the driver for your printer was not bundled with Mac OS X, check the Mac OS X downloads page (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/drivers/), the printer manufacturer's Web site and/or your printer in-box materials to see if OS X software for your printer is available. Reinstall this software if possible.
