Bomber's father in gun plea
BY TIM JONES
POLICE withdrew a shotgun licence from the father of
David Copeland, the Soho nail-bomber, because they feared he
would kill himself, a court was told yesterday.
Stephen Copeland, 51, was considered a danger to himself
and the public because of the pressure of his son's arrest and
trial for bombings, including the blast at the Admiral Duncana
pub in Soho in which three people died.
Yesterday he appealed against the decision to revoke the
licence and said that he should not be punished for his son's
crimes.
Peter Savill, for Hampshire Police Authority, said that
Mr Copeland's former wife and son Jonathon had feared he would
commit suicide and urged police to take his gun away.
Mr Savill told Winchester County Court that one of Mr
Copeland's doctors had said that he would pose a significant
risk. The hearing was adjourned.
