A number of shooters in England make their own bullets,
by casting in bullet molds using a lead alloy. Alex
Hamilton, who introduced me to this list is also with
me on the Cast Bullet list at [EMAIL PROTECTED], along
with a number of other British shooters. Since cast
bulets seemingly cause no problem, how about swaging
your own bullets, using jackets with lead core?
Most any good machinist could make you the eqipment,
but a very popular supplier of bullet making equipment
of that type in the US is found on the net at
www.corbin.com. Until manufacturers like Bergen came
along, many bench rest shooters used equipment supplies
like Corbin.
Cast lead bullets can be replaced with swaged lead
bullets, can be replaced with swaged jacketed bullets. If
the law allows the first one, why not the last? They are
all home made. At the price you English shooter have to pay
for bullets, the equipment would quickly pay for itself,
particularly if several went together, or if it were owned
by a club. You can start with the simplest, manual lever
operation, and get more and more sophisticated.
