Steve is right in what he says, you just cannot get a lot of
stuff here at any price, even when you can it takes ages.
I got some .416 Rigby brass and dies from Old Western
Scrounger a while back, it took about two weeks, it was
cheaper than I was quoted from a dealer here, I didn't get
hit for VAT and they didn't even charge me any postage.

The brass had been on order for months at that point as
had the dies and there was no clear date when it would
be here.

As long as it's not firearms, ammo or expanding bullets
you are ordering then everything can be had from the US
much cheaper and generally much quicker than here. To
be honest if I was buying a pricey firearm that was going
to involve a long wait I would go to the states and get it
there, I belive a dealer can sell you it as long as you don't
actually take possesion of it in the US. I'm sure a few
bucks will ensure that he will transport it to the airport
and check it on the plane for you. Even then there are
companies that will do personal exports for you (I think?).

I dealers want to keep their profits up why don't they just
order direct from the US so their customers don't have
to? I bet they could still afford to put thier profit on and
keep the price below UK retail.

It is extremely complex to import guns from the US, I wouldn't
even bother trying for a single gun (although I did do it -
once, never again!) The dealer has to be licensed by the Dept.
of State, and very few are. Then you have to pay them to apply
on DSP5 for an export license, you usually have to supply a
DSP83 (end user certificate), and it takes ages for the license
to be issued. Then you get charged a fortune for the freight. It
just is not worth bothering.

It is possible for an individual US citizen to obtain a
DSP5 without being commercially licensed but that requires
you having a friend in the US willing to do it for you.

My strong suggestion if you want to import guns is to import
them from Switzerland, it's a doddle, they don't even ask
for a copy of your import license! You just pay 50 Francs
(about L20) for an export license. You will however need
to budget on at least a day at the airport as you will
need to go to the Customs House and the shipper and stand
in about seven or eight queues when the gun arrives.

Steve.
