So, the friendly police (pre-losing the war) thus become the people's enemies
after losing the war? Thus gun registration actually helps the enemy who
conquers that country! Shouldn't the police actually form "The Resistance"
and arm civilians instead of helping the enemy?

There are several interesting books on how the Nazis took control
of the police in the countries they occupied, unfortunately most
of them are in French. Essentially they replaced the commanders
with people they could trust, and marched all the officers off
to concentration camps. In many countries such as Belgium and
the Netherlands they actually gave the local constables better
armament, such as MP40s and 9mm pistols.

My french not being the best I couldn't completely understand
the one book I read on the occupation of France but given the
choice between going to a concentration camp or helping the
Nazis, many (if not most) of the police decided to go along
with the Nazis. Many of the jews rounded up in France where
by french police.
