I think the human propensity for persecution of those seen
as different is still alive and well.  The same propensity
has been exploited variously throughout history in episodes
such as the witch hunt in this country in the 17th Century,
the Nazi persecution of the Jews and so on.  

It is something intelligent and humane people have been
fighting for centuries.  Bills of Rights are examples of
this struggle which is still going on.

I just think this country is the leading example of
socialisation via TV, I've actually heard BBC officials
say that TV makes the country more "homogenous" a polite
way of saying they want to brainwash everyone into thinking
the same way.  It's much easier in such an urbanised
environment.
