GUN SALE BAN NOT WORKING, ADMITS BRAZIL
Brazil's supreme court has overturned a
nationwide ban on gun sales imposed
earlier this year by the government.
The measure was introduced in June as
part of a major initiative to stem
rising crime rates.
But the country's Chief Justice, Carlos
Velloso, said the decree had not had
any effect as criminals did not buy
their weapons in gun shops.
It is estimated that one person in
Brazil is killed every 13 minutes
