I've never wanted to own a de-activated gun, and I never had any desire to
have my late Series 70 .45ACP Commander neutered - I flogged it in advance of
the ban, rather than surrender it - but can anyone confirm my feeling that
deacts are pretty damn expensive? For photographic purposes I need a
succession of convincingly realistic handguns, from BP single-action
revolvers to modern semi-auto pistols, but I'm not able to shell out large
sums. FAC regs clearly prevent me from borrowing friends' working BP
revolvers, though I can photograph these at the range. What are the cheapest,
but still realistic, "imitation" handguns around? How much do they cost and
who sells them? Is there anyone who would lend or hire me such things, or
deacts?
TIA, Tony Harrison

Deacs cost more than live guns, because you have to pay for
the gun and the cost of having it deactivated. I've never
seen a replica gun that is any good when viewed close up, but
it depends on how knowledgeable you are I suppose.

Some of the airsoft guns are reasonable from side-on, but
only if they're modern guns, rather than the older ones.

There are people who make good replicas for fast draw and
so on but they're not inexpensive.

Steve.
