For murder you can only serve one life sentence, you are only ever released
on licence so a mutiple murderer will always get sentenced concurrently.
When murder was a capital offence you could only be tried for one count so
if you had murdered two people and been found not guilty of the one offence
you were charged with then you had got away with both so it was inevitable
that the charge was for the one crime. A case in point being that Timothy
evans was charged with murdering his baby daughter, and NEVER was charged
with killing his wife so one of the most famous cases cited as a miscarriage
of justice is based on a false premise.
