CILA / ICAL Defending Canada's Heritage -------------------------------------------- October 24, 2000 RE: The Liberals lied...again! To the Editor; Section 12(6) of the Firearms Act provides for the confiscation of legally owned firearms, specifically .25 and .32 caliber handguns and any firearm with a barrel length of less than 105mm. These firearms are due to be confiscated December 31, 2000, a mere two months from now. Legislation was prepared to change the implementation date of the confiscations but it has now died on the order paper as a result of the election call. Justice Minister Anne McLellan and Canadian Firearms Centre CEO Maryantonett Flumian have repeatedly made the public statement "We will not confiscate firearms" yet here it is. In two months time Canadians will face the specter of their legally owned property being confiscated without compensation, property which is legally owned, legally acquired, safely stored and FULLY REGISTERED. If Canadians ever had any doubt that "registration equals confiscation", it is surely removed now. Bill C-68, the Firearms Act will now prove itself to be precisely what our Institute claimed it to be from its outset. A horrendously expensive, thinly veiled excuse to steal "politically incorrect" property from honest citizens. The Liberals lied about gun confiscation. What's next?
