Forgive the possibly ignorant question, but, as one
who would instinctively load a weapon (ie chamber a
round) when leaving a "safe" environment to go
into a dangerous one (is an Aslav enclosed?), why were
these rifles carried "loaded" (is it standard procedure?).

If it is standard procedure to keep them in "ready"
mode, with safety on, why were they not in hand (ie
under control and not likely to be dropped)?

Or, if they have to be retrieved for firing anyway,
why would it take significantly longer to cock the
action whilst picking the weapon from where
it had been left?

I thought modern self loading firearms (without
chambered rounds) had stopped firing themselves when
dropped after the Stirling (due to the weight
and free movement of its bolt)....

I don't understand how it went off either without
a finger on the trigger. Especially given the heavy
trigger pull on the AUG. The safety being accidentally
knocked to "off" I can understand.

Steve.
