I have not seen a 4 tonne truck run over a Steyr AUG but
I have seen the same performed by a Land Rover and the
AUG and SA80 on reasonably soft ground. The result was
that the AUG worked perfectly after a quick swill in
a bucket of water and the SA80 became a list of spare
parts. The reason for doing this test? to see if the
optics would still align with the barrel after an
"accident" in the field. The crap trigger pull of the
AUG can be attributed to the linkage between the
trigger and sear and is common to most bullpup rifles
(FAMAS, SA80 etc)and the Browning GP35.

Why me?
--
The trigger pull on the AUG is worse than the SA80
in my experience, because the AUG setup has more
friction in it, plastic rubbing against plastic.
The question that comes to my mind is how often on
a battlefield have soldiers had the conversation:
"Look out chaps, they're bringing the four tonne
truck forward, don't let the bugger drive over
your rifles!"
Or alternatively, "The Pentagon today announced
they were abandoning the anti-ballistic missile
programme because although they had successfully
shot down an incoming ICBM, the system could not
withstand being driven over with a four tonne
truck."
This is all beginning to remind me of that idiotic
Glock publicity stunt in California around 1990.
"We took a Glock 17 and threw it against a wall
50 times, and it still worked!"
"We took a Glock 17 and froze it in a block of
ice, defrosted it, and it still worked!"
"We took a Glock 17 and drove a GMC truck over
it, and it still worked!"
"We took twenty Glock 17s, disassembled them, made
a gun from the pile of parts, and attempted to fire
10,000 rounds through it and the disconnector
spring broke after 3,000 rounds, so we replaced it
and carried on."
Oh.
And so the California Highway Patrol bought the S&W 4006!
Sometimes it is possible to get carried away with hype.<G>
