I hold FACs in Belgium and the UK (plus a Belgian EFP) for
my bolt action rifles. Holding these documents, is it legal
for me to import ammunition from Belgum to the UK when I use
the cross channel ferry. I can't find any information regarding
the legal issues. Also does anyone know if I need to inform the
shipping company, we're talking small amounts here, about
1000 - 2000 rounds total.

An FAC serves as an import license according to DTI rules so
there is no problem from the UK end of things, but from my
understanding of Belgian law you need a Belgian export license,
the EFP is irrelevant as that is intended for temporary exports
for sporting use (e.g. hunting trips, competitions).

The rules for carrying ammunition vary from company to company,
but usually you have to declare it to them and they lock it up
and give it back to you when you get to the destination. It
depends. I've been on the ferry and they seemed totally
uninterested after I showed them I had all the paperwork.
If it's expanding ammo, it's not legal for the ferry company
to take custody of it because when the ship comes into UK waters
Section 5 of the 1968 Act will apply to them.

I'd ask the ferry company before getting to the port if I
were you.

Steve.
