The neighbours of Richard Faulds have only won the
right to appeal (again) on a technicality, not to
have him shut down. Planning regs for clay pigeon
shoots are fairly well laid down and easy to monitor
and I would be suprised to find anyone giving permission
a second thought. Most people who complain about such
things tend to be people who move into an area without
realising what goes on beforehand and then complain
about an existing activity.
The Faulds farm could carry on every day if they wanted
to by moving the traps about so the same land is not
used more than a dozen times a year. I go claybusting on
a farm where organised shooting takes place and when a
local golf club complained about the noise "some people"
insisted on using the public footpath across the course
all day every sunday as was their right so the golfers
couldn't play at all.
For anyone interested in measuring things just for the
hell of it (pollution monitoring can be fun?) you will
find that most peoples fridges make more noise than a
clay pigeon shoot when measured from the average front
room to their respective relevant distances, perhaps
shooters should complain about that.
