From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For those keeping score: Front Page Headline Leicester Mercury 22/09/2000 TWO MEN INJURED IN CITY SHOOTING BY KUNBI JEGEDE Two young men were today being treated for gunshot wounds to the legs after being shot in Leicester last night. The unnamed victims, an 18-year-old and a 22-year-old, were taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary following the attack at Redwood Walk, off Humberstone Road. Their condition was described as comfortable and detectives were today waiting to speak to them. CORDONED OFF The area was still cordoned off this morning as police searched for the weapon. Officers said they believed the shooting had followed an argument involving a group of people in their late teens and early 20s. The incident took place between 10.30pm and 11 pm. Mary Garder, 64, of Redwood Walk, said: "I was in the bathroom at 11 pm and I heard arguing. It sounded like the voices of some men and then I heard running. "Then I heard three loud shots. They were really loud and it sounded like guns. "I thought to myself 'I'm not being I nosy' so I switched the light off and got straight into bed." Grenville Tucker, 51, of near Lombardy Rise said: "I was in bed when I heard what sounded like youths talking and swearing. Then I heard five shots. " Joan Pritchard, 58, of nearby Oak Street, said: "I was lying in bed when I heard four bangs. "I thought it was a smash or car being done in, but the more I think about it, it sounded like shots." Robert Jenkins, 17, a student who also lives in Oak Street said: "I bumped into my friend this morning. He lives in Redwood Walk flats and he told me this morning he heard a scream last night." Officers arrived with forensic experts and the investigation continued through the night. This morning 12 officers we on the scene together with scenes of crime experts who were conducting a fingertip search of the area. No-one has been arrested. He said the injuries to the two men were not life threatening. The stretch of road between Oak Street and Redwood Walk was shut by police, slowing traffic and blocking the b lane. Cones cordoned off part the scene overnight and this morning traffic in the area was slowed to a crawl.
