LONDON (Reuters) - Police said a 12-hour armed siege at
a Wiltshire garden centre ended peacefully when a gunman
released his two hostages and gave himself up.

Police said a man walked into the garden centre in
Woodborough at 4.15 p.m. on Friday, barricaded himself in
an office and took a man and a woman hostage.

Armed officers surrounded the garden centre and police
negotiators spent most of the night talking with the
man. Several houses in the area were evacuated.

The gunman released the male hostage late on Friday night
and the female hostage at 4.30 a.m. on Saturday.

A police spokesman said the man gave himself up shortly
before 5 a.m. and was taken into custody.

"No one was injured and no shots were fired," the spokesman
said.

Police would not comment on media reports which said the
female hostage was the gunman's former girlfriend.

No further details were available
