The information that Albie Fox had been accepted as a
Conservative party candidate for Ynys Mon was posted
to the SA WWW site at least 3 weeks ago. Albie himself
also posted information to the SA BBS. Does nobody keep an
eye on this site? I though you were all members?

Albie's actions at the conference were more than an interview
- it was a full blown debate. The WWW page above outlines
what he said.
Quite frankly the fact that this information has taken
three weeks to reach the readers of this list is quite
depressing. If that is the state of our communications
network (encrypted or not) I fear we have a long way to go.

Well, we're on the SAGBNI press release list and they haven't
sent anything out about it. Here is the article:
Albie Fox Speaks At Conservative Party Conference
Fox Seeks Fair Deal For Shooters
Nick Speed
The Western Mail
05/10/2000
PARLIAMENTARY hopeful Albie Fox accused the Government
of ignoring shooters during a debate on culture and sport.
Mr Fox, who is the Conservatives candidate for Ynys Mn
at the next election, told the conference that the Prime
Minister had refused him a meeting to discuss firearms
regulations in his capacity as a leading field-sports
campaigner.
An international pistol shooter who represented Wales in
the Commonwealth Games, Mr Fox said, After becoming the
director of the Sportsmans Association, which had a
membership of 58,000, I wrote to Tony Blair to ask a
meeting in order to put over the view of the law abiding
pistol shooter.
The day I got a letter from a minion of his saying no
to a meeting, he had Sinn Fein to tea in Downing Street.
Where is the justice in that?
The refusal made a mockery, claimed Mr Fox, of Tony
Blairs speech to last weeks Labour conference where he
said that the Government were there to protect, fight
and ensure justice for the minorities in this country.
To that, I say cobblers, said Mr Fox. He added, He and
Jack Straw are now talking about restricting the age for
shotgun shooting and other draconian measures.
This, in the week when we won a magnificent gold and
silver medal in the Olympics.
I ask you all to make sure that this time we do not let
the law-abiding shooter down and protect their sport.
