>POLICE SHOOT REPLICA GUN SUSPECT<
Surely they mean a suspect with a replica gun - or wasn't the suspect a real
one?
>The man, whom police believe to have been involved in a spate of robberies,
was shot in the leg in the Toxteth area of Liverpool, by Merseyside firearms
officers.<
This is the perfect scenario for the "couldn't they just wing him" types -
except that they legged him. Whilst I have to admire the police for their
restraint in this case, I can't help but wonder if the officer concerned
actually hit what he was aiming for.
On the other hand, if the force concerned has an AFO who is really good
enough to incapacitate (enough to disarm) an truly armed baddy with a shot
to the leg, more power to his/her elbow....s/he could be in much demand.
>A Police Complaints Authority spokesman said the case had been voluntarily
referred to them by Merseyside Police, and they would now oversee a full
inquiry.<
Hmm....perhaps it was a lucky hit that stopped someone who was running
away...
Still, good for them for getting an abuser of firearms, replica or not.

It'll never happen but if the police knew in advance in a case
like this that the gun definitely was a replica it might be
amusing to hold him at gunpoint with replica MP5s. See if
the crook falls for it.
Steve.
