Should any of you have been following her year on BBC2 there was an
interesting debate on channel 4's "right to reply" with some tree hugger
complaing about the programmes bias and the programme maker's refusal to
inclube an alternative view.
This woman tackled the programme commissioner about this and he shot her
down in flames on the following points
C. D-W was asked if she would do it rather than her forcing her opinion on
the BBC
C D-W was not affiliated to any organisation which the bunny hugger claimed
she was a member of.
C D-W is not a member of any political party and does not campaign for any
of them either.
The programmes showed dead animals as you find them rather than in a
sanitised form, therefore allegations about gratuitous slaughter were untrue
The programmes did not attempt to sanitise the killing of hares foxes etc.
the bunny hugger contradicting herself with her own statements when they
were proved to be false.(see above)
The BBC has plenty of other programmes expressing other viewpoints so has no
need to balance this one to keep to its charter.
The bunny hugger forgot to mention her own affiliations to various
anti-everything organisations which is ironic or perhaps even hyposritical.
For once the Beeb stuck to its guns and defended an interesting series which
does raise the debate quite well, shame C4 could not resist having a dig in
its own preface to the above.
