Fellow Cybershooters might be interested to learn that the well known
purveyor of distortion and half truths (not to mention downright lies!)
Ms Gill Marshall-Andrews - has recently been granted airspace in "The
Magistrate" ( the journal of the Magistrates Association in the U.K. -
readership approx. 29,000) as a guest contributor.
I will not reproduce it here due to it's length but it ran to a full page
and constituted half of a "debate" on the subject of Firearms and Young
Children. She of course took the "anti" stance and trotted out the usual
tosh. The "pro" stance was taken on the opposite page by Sandy Ewing (N.R.A.
& F.C.C.) who did a fair job of putting a positive argument forward.
Unfortunately all of the specific nonsense spouted by G.M-A went unaddressed
as this is not in fact a debate but merely an opportunity for two people to
each write a short article on the subject, with the result, as we all know,
that a degree of mud will stick.
I was sufficiently incensed by this poisonous woman's intrusion to pen my
views (which I reproduce below) and now wait with interest to see whether or
not they publish them. Watch this space!
"Dear Sir,
To the casual reader of "The Magistrate" it would probably not seem
unreasonable to devote a whole page to the views of "Chair of the Gun
Control Network" - Ms Gill Marshall-Andrews (The Magistrates debate -
Firearms and Young People p.300).
It will no doubt surprise those readers (and perhaps the Editor?) to learn
that such an august sounding organisation consists of a mere 6 (yes SIX!)
members.
Ms. G.M-A has gone to great lengths to hide the identities of those members
and has point blank refused to divulge the groups source of funding to the
F.C.C.
She is also on record as stating that "membership of the Network has been
closed to prevent infiltration"!!
Let's be clear on this, Ms. M.G-A is simply an unrepresentative
self-publicist whose arguments are based on no more than emotion and
prejudice - a scenario which I hope would be anathema to all practising
Justices.
A line by line rebuttal of the nonsense and misinformation peddled by Ms.
G.M-A is very tempting but would inevitably take up too much space. Suffice
it to say that the "studies" to which she refers, by Messrs. Zimring,
Hawkins and Killias were shown to be deeply flawed not long after
publication and have long since been discredited and dismissed as irrelevant
by serious students of the subject. As one of around 50.000 law abiding
shooters who had their chosen sport destroyed, largely as a result of
agitation by the likes of Ms. G.M-A, I find it nothing short of astonishing
that her unsupported and dangerously misleading views should be given
credibility by inclusion in our journal"
