From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] GAMEKEEPER'S GUN ENDS SOW'S LIFE ON THE RUN 121452 JAN 10 By Jane Merrick, PA News A wild boar on the run for more than six months after a dramatic escape from an abattoir has been shot dead by marksmen, it emerged today. The 300lb sow dashed through an open door of the slaughterhouse in Tabley, Cheshire, in July last year and had been living in wooded countryside ever since. Her life of freedom came to an abrupt end on Sunday when the boar was spotted in the grounds of an estate and gunned down by a gamekeeper. Alan Jackson, of Jackson's abattoir, who asked the keeper at Tabley estate to shoot it on sight, blamed the boar's notoriety for the killing. He said: "We had do to it because people kept mithering us about it after it was in the press. "There were people, bounty-hunters, who wanted to get her so we decided to put an end to it, get rid. "People were phoning us up about it all the time. "If there hadn't been so much publicity about her then we wouldn't have needed to do it. "We asked the Tabley gamekeeper to shoot her on sight if he saw her." Mr Jackson said the 21-month-old boar, nicknamed the Tabley Tearaway, had been "seen to" at the abattoir and was returned to its owners, a wild boar farm in Arley, Cheshire. "The owner will eat her now," he added. The animal had been one of three boars sent to Jackson's from the wild boar farm a few miles away. The other two had also tried to escape through the door but were recaptured by staff. In January 1998, two pigs, known as the Tamworth Two, gained international celebrity when they escaped from an abattoir in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, and spent nearly two weeks on the run before being recaptured.
