From: "Christopher Gould", [EMAIL PROTECTED] Richard Loweth posted "One intriguing aspect of this is would the police be allowed to use such weapons against Russian Spetsnatz paratroopers." With respect Richard, is this not the most unlikely idea ever to be discussed on this list? The battle plan for a Russian invasion of the UK was published many years ago in the Revue Militaire Suisse and consisted in essence of a bridgehead on the east coast, bypassing London completely in the early stages, after sabotage of the infrastructure on a massive scale by the Spetsnatz. For various reasons it would probably have been successfull. When the Nazis invaded the Channel Islands the police there co-operated very enthusiastically with the army of occupation , not only providing detailed lists of FAC holders as requested, but also lists of anyone of Jewish origins. Not only did the police not play any part in resistance activities (unlike the French gendarmerie) but helped to root out and hunt down anyone suspected of resistance, including arresting a farm labourer for illegal possession of a wireless. He subsequently perished in a concentration camp. Why should we suppose that the police in Britain would have behaved any differently under Russian occupation? It is by no means certain whose side they would have been on and who they would have been pointing their guns at. Has it not been shown to be true that during WW2 the war office kept its plans secret from the home office because of doubts about the loyalty of the latter? -- I don't think the police here would be any different from the citizenry if there was an invasion. Some would go along, some would collaborate, and some would resist. Provided the invaders didn't ban booze or watching TV, I think most people would fall into the first category! Steve.
