My old Osprey, of foot shooting fame, stated that heavy, Moly-based grease
should
be used on the mainspring. Moly grease will not diesel at the kind of
pressures
found inside an airrifle, and can cope with the harsh conditions. Never use
a light
oil, such as WD40 or 3-in-1! I have seen the effect on the pellets of a drop
of
3-in-1 behind it, and I wouldn't like that from the mainspring!
As for coating the pellets.. Try getting a dry graphite powder from a
lock-smith or
gun-smith if you can't find moly powder. I would suggest using a rag and
putting
some pellets and a little powder into it, then moving them around a bit. I
don't
know if this will work, however, as I now have a Falcon pneumatic, which is
almost
spot on 12ft-lbs, and is dead accurate, so I don't bother messing about.
I may try getting some moly for coating of 7.62mm and .38/.357 and perhaps
even .22
ammo, assuming I get my FAC when I apply. I am sending the forms in to
Hutton
tonight. Fingers crossed!
