Japanese Junior Airgun Team Held at Border

Canada Customs officials at Lester B. Pearson International Airport have
detained the Japanese Junior Airgun Team and have seized their airguns. They
are trying to determine if their airguns are actually firearms under C-68,
the Firearms Act.

They are also unsure if they are able to issue a Temporary Firearms License to
the competitors as they are minors.

The Team is in Canada to compete at the annual Crosman International Airgun
Grand Prix, held in Toronto and hosted by the Canadian Shooting Sports
Association.

CILA Executive Director Tony Bernardo stated, This is exactly the kind of
nonsense we have repeatedly warned about. These kids are not a threat to
Canadian society.

These future Olympic competitors will hardly be doing drive-bys in Toronto
with their $3,000 competition pellet guns but theyll sure remember this if
Toronto succeeds in getting its Olympic bid. He added.

Canadian Shooting Sports Communications Director Owen Nisbett says this is
typical, No one in Canada really understands this ridiculous legislation much
less the officials charged with enforcing it. This sort of incident is
virtually guaranteed to happen again and again until the government repeals
this law. Some welcome to Canada eh?

The Japanese Junior Team Coach could not be reached for comment.
