HAVE-A-GO' HEROES FOIL BANK RAID

250709 JAN 10 By Anita Singh, PA News

Police today praised the bravery of three passers-by who
foiled a bank raid by jumping on an armed robber and
seizing his gun. The suspect, armed with a handgun,
attempted to hold up a Securicor guard outside Barclays
Bank in Regent Street, central London, last night. The
guard struggled with him instead of complying with his
demands and three passers-by came to his aid. They disarmed
and detained the gunman until officers arrived to arrest
him. It is believed the weapon was a genuine firearm,
Scotland Yard said. Det Sgt Jon Anderson, of West End
Central CID, said: "While we advise the victims of robbery
not to tackle armed suspects, because of the obvious
dangers involved, that is to take nothing away from the
bravery of the Securicor guard and the members of the
public who assisted him. "They deserve praise for the
courage which foiled an armed robbery." A 22-year-old man
from South Lambeth, south London, is being questioned at
Charing Cross police station in connection with!
 the attempted robbery.

Why weren't they immediately arrested for being in
possession? The Met slipped up here.
