EX-POLICEMAN REMANDED ON ROBBERY CHARGES 011741 FEB 10

By Phil Hazlewood, PA News

A former policeman was remanded in custody when he appeared
in court today charged with robbery and firearms offences.
Lawrence Henry Shaw, 49, who served as a detective constable
with West Midlands Police, is accused of two counts of robbery
which are alleged to have been committed in December 1999 and
July 2000. He also faces one charge of conspiracy to commit
robbery, two charges of the unlawful possession of a firearm
with intent to commit robbery, another of possessing a
double-barrelled shot-gun and two driving offences. During
the hearing before magistrates in Solihull, West Midlands,
Shaw spoke only to confirm his name, age and that he was of
no fixed address. No application for bail was made and
reporting restrictions were not lifted. Magistrates remanded
him in custody and committed the case to Warwick Crown Court,
sitting in Birmingham, for a further hearing on February 12.
