I must jump to support every word Tom Charnock penned on the subject of the
sporting use of 50 cal (not that he needs any help from me), Alex Hamilton's
_sniping_ comment about the use of 50 cal is typical of the _gravel belly_
mentality (not to mention the mind set of the assorted _ban it all_
fraternity). If Alex thinks that the use of such calibres engenders a
_sniping_ mentality, he is wrong and needs to remember that the best
training for snipers has, is, and always will be, stalking (and by that I
mean stalking everything from rabbits to big game). The best snipers have
almost always cut their teeth on killing lesser creatures before being
compelled to hunt other men. It is also interesting to note that those who
do the compelling are usually the same people who blanch at the thought of
killing anything and _bleat on_ about the beastliness of those who can/do in
other times.
Just what is the problem with wanting to hit something at 1,000 yards or
more ? The challenge has a certain appeal to me, though I have not, as
yet, tried it. I really have to question the mentality of any man who
perceives everything as a threat ... I pity them for their sad, empty,
boring lives ... no ... maybe existence is a better word ... ACPO, GCN, Tony
BLiar, gravel bellies and similar assorted anoraks please take note !!!
Regards,
Paul
