much criminal activity do they suffer with firearms? Anyone know?

Not much according to the Japanese Public Safety Division.

It has risen recently but they still have only about 100 firearm-related
homicides a year, less than that in fact.

However the point about Japan is that their criminal justice system
is not remotely comparable to ours let alone that in the US. They
are endlessly criticised by human rights groups for detaining people
without trial and fabricating confessions and so on, so it is hard
to compare.
