Given that my mailbox is at exploding point on this thread,
I will have to end it here.
This is not the forum for talking about whether or not fox
hunting is a good idea, this is for shooters, although I
recognise there is some overlap when it comes to field sports
as many of them require a gun.
All I can say is that target shooting cannot survive without
fieldsports. There are 620,000 SGCs on issue and 160,000 FACs
on issue and of those, perhaps 70,000 FACs are for target
shooting and only a small minority of SGCs are held by people
who shoot clays.
The reality is that without fieldsports the majority of gun
shops would close. Most people who own guns own them for
shooting animals, whether it be for sport or for pest control.
You may not like it, but that's the true picture.
If you don't want to go on the march, then that's up to you,
but I think you're making a mistake.
It's not as if there is a march for target shooters the following
weekend. This is it. This is all there is. There aren't
enough target shooters to make any appreciable difference on
their own. BASC has 130,000 members, the NRA has 5,000 -
work it out for yourself.
Any more messages on this thread I will only forward if they
are actually to do with the march, rather than the rights or
wrongs of fox hunting.
Steve.
