I have written before that I believe that it is folly for shooters to give
money to the Countryside Alliance. Some on this forum have disagreed with
the opinion of many that the Countryside Alliance is perhaps the
"houndsports lobby" under another name.

I have no views on that.

What "cybershooters" should read, however, is Lord Kimball's submission to
the Home Affairs Committee. It is published in Volume II of the HAC Report.
I quote:

"The Committee might also look at the up to date position of large magazine
smooth bore guns. Large magazine pump action guns have been used in a
significant number of occasions in serious crimes...

"I have never been satisfied on the need for any of these weapons to be
used...

"There are no agricultural, sporting or competitive purposes where these
weapons offer extra efficiency over the traditional double barrelled
shotgun...

"I do suggest to the Committee one major recommendation...the need for two
counter signatures...

"The Committee should review the weakness of only one signature and
recommend two..."

Lord Kimball is Deputy Chairman of the Countryside Alliance. Is this what
this body really thinks? Did Lord Kimball speak on their behalf, or on his
own?

Perhaps "cybershooters" should contact the Countryside Alliance and ask?
--
Lord Kimball I think was the head of the Campaign for Shooting but was
ousted - this is not the position of the CA that was presented to me by them
and Lord Kimball's submission is his own.

BTW, Richard, YOUR submission is not exactly friendly towards race starters,
I have to say. Given that they have to get an FAC and comply with all the
attendant BS I have no idea what your problem is with them.

Steve.
