With the showing of Euro Air Rifle Masters on Eurosport tonight I think
target shooting on TV has finally come of age.

An altered competition which has competitors shooting in a match play
situation.
Five shots each, taken alternately on adjacent firing points.
A time limit of 30 secs per shot once the shooter has loaded and prepared.
Electronic scoring presented instantaneously and best feature of all a
target overlayed on the screen with a laser trace showing the hold pattern
of the shooter as it happens, first in green which then changes to red at
the instant of shot release.

Also men and women competing against each other, indeed the final was a
French woman versus an American man (won by the French woman).
Although I used to shoot small bore rifle and so have a level of knowledge
of this type of shooting I expected to tune in just for a look see but
stayed watching the whole hour. As a first try at this sort of presentation
it was pretty good although they do need perhaps the sort of two handed
approach that is used by F1 racing as the commentator was doing his best but
needed someone in the know to offer expert comment and explanation.
If they try this sort of thing at the Sydney Olympics it should do nothing
but good for the sport.
Nice to notice very large and prominent decals on the rifles from Ford as a
sponsor for the American team given the current climate.

Now if we could just get them to cover an IPSC competition.

ESPN covers IPSC type events occasionally, but I don't know if it's
available in Europe, I've never seen it here.
