Conservative leader William Hague today called for homeowners to be given the
benefit of the doubt when defending themselves and their property. The Tory
leader, whose party banned the legal ownership of Handguns said "the Tony
Martin case has shown that the rights of criminals are being put before the
rights of millions of vulnerable people" he continued "whilst we cannot
condone the legal ownership of firearms for self defense, we are more than
happy for people to aquire them illegally for that purpose if they so wish".
