Steve,
I recently attended a meeting with the chief constable of Lancashire police
regarding firearms.
In this meeting he told all the club representatives present he wants yearly
attendance returns sending in to Lancs Firearms Dept every month. These
returns are to be "rolling" returns.ie if someone has not attended for
twelve months then they are reported as so.Next month they are reported as
not attending for 13 months, next 14 and so on.
As far as our members understand we only need to send in a return ONCE a
year giving the relevent information.
When pushed on this the Chief Constable replied that if the liason officer
was not supplying him with the information HE requires, the HO would remove
the Approval of the club.
Is this request for monthly rolling returns a LEGAL requirement or just
something else thrown in to make more paperwork for us and hopefully put us
off shooting sports.
No one seems to be able to tell me if point 5 in the criteria for approval
given out by the HO is a recommendation or LAW.If it IS law the line
"....providing the police with such information as they require......" could
be a huge burden on our clubs
TIA

Your obligation is to notify the police if a member has not attended
for at least 12 months - nothing more, if I understand what the HO
is telling me correctly. Ask Keith Bottomley at the HO Firearms
Section.

Steve.
