I like the idea of having a symbol of the oppressed and using it to keep
our cause alive. Heinrich Hrke is right in suggesting that we cannot
choose a more instantly recognisable symbol of the oppressed than the
yellow star as worn by Jews in Nazi Germany.

But I also accept the view that many will not see the justification in
wearing the Star of David to promote what to many, affected by the
Holocaust, would be seen as a trivial issue. The last thing we want is
to alienate Jews world-wide and create yet another unsympathetic group.

So, why don't we seek their permission?

I think that to be effective whatever symbol is chosen has to be worn by
all on some protest march - 20,000 yellow stars marching down Whitehall
could not be missed, whilst one or two seen in a supermarket could be
taken to mean anything.

Jewish leaders will be interviewed by the media to seek their reaction
and possible condemnation of the use of yellow star. But if they gave
their permission and support beforehand, they might welcome an
opportunity to remind the World of the Holocaust AND TO STATE WITH
CONVICTION THAT OPPRESSION HAS NOT DIED WITH NAZI GERMANY, BUT IS VERY
MUCH ALIVE TODAY AND IT PRESENTS A SERIOUS THREAT TO FREEDOM AND
DEMOCRACY!!!

I'd like to hear the answer to the question that surely must follow:"So,
what is it that you are protesting about today?"

Alex.

I don't think we need their permission, and I very seriously doubt
they'd give it even if we did. What you're asking for is their
endorsement.

Steve.
