I'll keep it short.

Anyone who is interested in learning about air superiority and the
weapons, strategy and tactics best suited to achieve it should do some
reading:

"Strategy for Defeat: Vietnam in retrospect"; by Admiral Sharp ISBN
0-89141-272-7

"Storm over Iraq: Air Power and the Gulf War"; by Richard Hallion (US
Air Force's official historian), ISBN 1-56098-723-5

"Air Power: the strategy behind the air campaign against Iraq"; I don't
have the book to hand so don't have full details.

Anyone who undertakes a serious study of the subject will soon realise
that the best place to destroy enemy aircraft is when they are still on
the ground (in their HASs for example using a precision munition). The
*least* effective place to **attempt** to destroy your enemy's aircraft
is in air-to-air combat, irrespective of what romanticising pilots or
would-be pilots might wistfully think.

is a well armed lamb contesting the vote."
Benjamin Franklin, 1759
