Is the FN-FAL the best 7.62 NATO rifle around?

No, I would say something like a Palma TR is slightly better<G>.

Or are you talking about military rifles?  SIG-Sauer SSG3000?<G>

Actually as a combat gun I prefer the G3.  The Germans ditched
the FAL for the G3 as I recall.
