So Mr Francis says never mind the USA? I would remind him that our legal
system is based on British Common Law! You have a Home Secretary who says
that self defence is not an acceptable reason to own a firearm, but has an
armed policeman as his body guard. A Prime minister who agrees with him,
but who has 26 policemen to guard him. If firearms are that odious to them,
then I think they should dispense with these police to prove their sincerity.
He also states that we are not privey to all the facts. This is simply
saying don't question your betters. A formula that has been used by tyrants
since the beginning of time. For his information, I read the London Times
every day and I hardly think they are noted for not being in possession of
the facts. While Mr. Martin is not the most pleasent person, He is entitled
to the same protection under the law that any other citizen is. It is quite
evident that the police are incapable of providing that protection. I have
heard the word vigilante bruited about by people who are ignorant of the
meaning of the word. Mr. Martin does not qualify for that title in any
way. Much has been said about his firing five rounds from his shotgun,
saying he deliberatly meant to kill. Unless you have been in that situation
it is obvious that it is not you who are in possession of the facts. The
jury had to convict according to the law. I would remind him that slavery
was the law at one time. We had a war about that law. Would he convict a
runaway slave or those who helped them in accordance with the law? People
were hanged in England at one time for stealing a loaf of bread. Would he
convict in that case? It seems to me that Mr. Francis and his ilk are on
the side of criminals because they cannot bring themselves to face the facts
of the real world. I have heard Dunblane and Hungerford held up as examples
while conviently forgetting the fact that the chief constables issued firearms
licences to the murderers in direct opposition to their departments wishes.
Would one call this police protection? I get the distinct impression Mr.
Francis would have preferred that Mr. Martin would have submitted to being
beaten or murdered just to keep things tidy. As a final summing up, I would
advise him that anyone breaking into my home at night will either run back
out or be carried out in a body bag, and make no excuses for that action. When
the government turns its citizens into sheep, they should not be surprised
that the wolves come to call.
