I was wondering if anyone could help me with this, I remember
reading some years ago in a gun magazine about an incident
in 1954 which led to all the remaining FACs for personal
protection being revoked by the Met.

As I recall it, a shopkeeper blasted someone with a
shotgun who came into his shop and threatened him.

The court held that the shopkeeper had used excessive force
and he was sent to prison. As a result, the Met decided to
revoke all the FACs for personal protection due to the extremely
small number of armed robbers (four recorded robberies
in London in 1954) at the time and the exceptionally low odds
of running into one.

Anyone got any more info on this?

Steve.
