April showers bring May flowers. Good chance to get a last ride in beautiful April 2009. The weather is spectacular with temperatures starting at 80°F and cooling to 74°F tomorrow night. The wind is a pleasant 7 mph from the west and slowing to 6 from the southeast so the best route is ride a loop with the wind at your back and the road always going downhill. Note, wheel sucking is allowed because they allow me to ride with the fun Wednesday night Cow group.
Dawgs. Went for a jog tonight. One little nippy dog came running after me as the lady disobeyed the city lease law. I turned around and came after the dog. The first boot sent the dog into a 180° flip. I booted the dog twice for repeated training and better memory skills. My granddad grew up on the farm and raised wonderful dogs. He trained his dogs. Either the dog got trained or it got the bullet. Life is simple on the Idaho farm. The boot was a simple graze on its plump side. The second boot was a tripping motion to show the dog that I was in total control. Alpha dog does not lose.
Dawgs and cycling. I scream YO. That one painfully loud word can really hurt the dog’s ears. I lost a front wheel, 1 set of wool tights, 2 sets of shorts and 1 jersey in one season running into dogs. A cyclist with 10,000+ miles asked if I knew how to use my dog whacker stick as he hefted his frame pump. The metal Campagnolo head made quite an impression. I have lost more than a few frame pumps on dogs and I installed the metal Campagnolo head. I have found screaming YO to be quicker and more effective. This past Saturday, I screamed 3 YO’s onto the dog chasing Gabe at the front. The dog backed off the pavement each time I yelled YO. The dog was not worried about Gabe because he heard the painful sound of Alpha Dog yelling YO. Note, I passed 3 large dogs on the jog tonight. They know the smell of alpha dog and they are well trained. I jog next to geese, ducks and swans on Regency Lake. We smile and we each stay on our side of the sidewalk. The geese stop their parade and let me jog past on the trail because I bark a sharp crisp YO to that front lead bird leading the parade. I am alpha dog and I do not lose. That little dude doing the 180° flip knows alpha dog. YO.
YO. Let’s have some fun safe cycling on Wednesday night. See y’all there. Mike Kinney
