Go Tim! I'm with you if I could afford a new bike.

Wet weather riding!

1. I would rather ride in the rain and clean the bike and drive train verses
riding a trainer.
2. I would rather ride in the rain and clean the bike and drive train verses
not riding at all.
3. That is why you buy a new bike so that your old bike becomes a rain bike and
just hose it down once in a while.

Congrats to all who have already ridden today. My bike and I are now heading
out the door.

Ronnie! You're just jealous!

I'll redeem myself regarding wet weather riding:

If rain is in area, other than light sprinkle, I won't go. If I happen
to be out and get caught in rain, so be it (has happened a couple of times).
If there is thunder and/or lightning in the area I won't go. Almost got
caught in thunderstorm once. Shelter was a bank drive through canopy. Winds
blowing 25+ mph, heavy rain, lightning very close. I was a little
nervous.
If I'm on an organized ride I paid or raised money for, I'll ride.

For me the issue isn't as much the slicker roads w/ 2 sq cm of rubber between
you and the road as it is the mess it makes of the bike and drive train. If
caught in rain long enough for the road to get soaked, that requires (for me) a
complete disassembly of the drive train for cleaning. The road grime and grit
thrown into it from the wet roads will chew up a drive train in very short
order if not cleaned and re-lubed before the next ride. On one ride, MS150,
after 30 miles (rain forced the closing of all routes except the 30 mile) with
on and off rain my chain did not have any lube on it at all. That's not to
mention getting the bike cleaned and dried off.

Anyway, for what it's worth, that's why I avoid the rain, if possible.

Ronnie

well it seems most cows abide by tim's rules:

C clear
O or
W we
S sleep

except for one renegade who clearly wants
to reach the next level in cycling etc to further
his tri success!

We passed him on old raleigh rd-he was coming
into Wilson, as the heavens
opened up once again, and we were ~ 4miles
into a 21m 17mph avg route-that Nick taught us.

And yes it was wet and yes it was dirty and yes it
was my 1st wet ride and yes we were not
sleeping like many cows were. And yes it was
a good ride and yes I think i would do it again.

Thanks for the push. again, Jeff!
and nope it is not enthusiasm, as much
as it was Jeff's late evening motivation post....
