Hi All,
We had a very successful meeting today with city representatives. David Lee
(Parks & Rec manager), Dale Edmonds (Parks & Rec), Bonnie Fulgham (City Risk
Assessment), Stewart Bryan (Professional trail builder), Mark Fulford, and
myself meet at the clubhouse at Gillette. During this meeting we were able
to address the concerns the city had with creating trails in parks including
insurance, liability, credentials, access, and financial concerns. Stewart
Bryan, an International Mountain Bikers Association(IMBA) member and trail
builder was able to answer the city's concerns and presented a slide show of
his beautiful trails. Needless to say everyone was impressed and I think the
city feels very comfortable moving forward. In fact that's what were doing.
We are meeting with Stewart at the North Wake county site he's working on next
week. Then we'll tour our options available at Buckhorn in a few weeks. From
there the city has ask
Stewart to design a trail with cost breakdowns.
Next, we'll have to get to work with fund raising for our new trails. We
already have some folks that are willing to help us. But, please be thinking
of ways that we can raise money and businesses that might support this kind of
project. We may need our grant writers to step up to the challenge.
Before this meeting I contacted several members from IMBA both Triangle Off
Road Cyclist(TORC) and Southern Off Road Biking Association (SORBA). The
response was overwhelming and incredibly helpful. In fact TORC has offered to
help us with this project in several ways. Through TORC Stewart is
volunteering his time designing the trail. Paul Elliot (TORC) has offered us
the ability to join TORC to get our project jumpstarted with the option of
starting our own chapter at a later time. Through TORC we'll have insurance
for any group rides, events, and volunteer activities. Please take a moment if
you are not a member and join IMBA. Like I said their support was incredible
and we'll need there resources to continue with this project.
Here's the link to join:
If you love mountain biking and care about the environment, you belong with
IMBA. That's because supporting IMBA is the most effective way for you to
build, maintain and open the trails you love to ride.
Join those who are passionate enough to support the trails they ride on. Join
locally at IMBA-TORC Chapter.DH Meetup Organizer
