John. o. and I joined 40 other riders in Morrisville for a 300K Brevet. Great weather all day looooong! 192 miles total with over 12,000 feet of climbs. The start was casual with a peloton of 20+ riders for the first 30 miles. First control stop was at mile 51. 4 riders did a quick stop and go. Mike D. gave a nod and off we go chasing the breakaway. For the rest of the day I hang out with 5 other riders in the lead group. Morrisville to Siler City then on to the red clay hills of Seagrove. We had a quick lunch at Hardees in Seagrove while watching some other riders arrive including John. Super rider Lynn is anxious for us to get back on the road so off we go back to Morrisville. With about 36 miles to go Lynn meanders off the front and I decide to give her some company. 10 miles to go and all those hills catch up with me and I watch her ride away. I am the second rider back to Morrisville but not being familiar with the route or Morrisville I miss a turn with less than 5 miles to go. I arrive at the finish a couple minutes behind the rest of our lead group. The 5 of us eat chow at a local Mexican Restaurant afterwards then part for home. It was like eating at the Captain's table with Lynn and Mike. 400K in 2 weeks!
