We had a great turnout for our first Bike Rodeo this Saturday! It was amazing to see all the kids having a great time riding and learning bicycle safety. I hope you didn't get any more sunburned then I did. I should have listened to Cynthia and put the sun lotion on earlier! We were worried about the weather earlier in the week but thankfully it turned out in our favor and we had great blue skies with a nice bit of wind to keep us cool.
This event could not have gotten off as well as it did without the generous help from many different groups! TPA - Max, Marshall, Earl and crew did an outstanding (and very efficient) job of setting up of the courses. Their team worked like a well oiled machine and was up and ready before the first rider showed up. They made the event run extremely smooth. Recreation Dept - Dale (and his wife) had the site prepped and ready to go! We could not have asked for a better location. Many of the guys from TPA stated that this was the best site they had ever put on a rodeo! They have been doing this across the state and in many other states so that really says a lot! Good job Dale! Volunteers - All the volunteers from WCC SGA (Patrick and Saron), the Scouts, the COWs, Tammy from Child Safety, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board, and City Planning (forgive me, I know I'm forgetting some here), thank you! Everyone was patient and helpful the entire day! With volunteers like this you can't go wrong. I didn't see anyone who wasn't smiling doing their job and it showed with the kids and how they enjoyed themselves. Don's Bicycle Shop - Thanks for Don providing on site support for cyclist participating in the Rodeo and for the "paper weights" to help out at the registration table with the wind! I know you guys were busy back at the store but your expertise really helped us out. Thanks to the Wilson Police Dept. and the Wilson Fire Dept. for setting up great displays and doing the child identification. Andy's at the concession stand. We greatly appreciate Andy's for coming out to provide concessions for the event. We had some great sponsors (TPA, Bridgestone/Firestone, Seretoma Cycling Club, Breakfast Optimist Club, and the Evening Optimist Club) to help make this event possible as well. I met with a couple sponsor representatives during the event. Without your help, we would not have been able to provide helmets for those who needed them. Thank you for caring enough to help us teach these children how to be safe on the road. There were many great stories that I heard during the event. If you heard one or have one, please pass it on. I would very much like to hear about it. There were several people out there taking pictures as well. Please pass on your photos so we can have a great record or this event. Also, we were not able to meet afterwards to talk about the Rodeo but if you can take a few minutes and make a short list of what went good and what we need to improve on. Your input here and now will go a long way in helping us with the next Rodeo! Thanks again to everyone for a wonderful job at our first Bike Rodeo!
