I was in Black Mountain this weekend for my brothers wedding. Of course I was not going to pass on the opportunity to ride while I was there. I arrived at the Red Rocker Inn at 12:20pm on Friday and was on my bike 15min later (wasted no time since I had to make rehearsal dinner) Ken sent me a great wedsite with area rides. www.ashvillecycling.com I picked the Morgan Hill ride 23.9 miles from Ingles in Black Mountain. Starting from the Red Rocker added about a mile. Thank goodness I started from there so I could have a little warm-up....1 mile and you go right into the first climb...about 3 miles at 10-12mph and there was a little head wind. Once you turn off NC 9 there was very little traffic and pretty good roads. As you can see from the map there is a loop. I had time to do the loop twice before heading back for some wonderful food and a few recovery drinks. I would highly recommend this ride if you are ever up that way. Adding the second loop gave me 40 miles from the Inn. There were a few climbs that made me feel like I was back at BSG. Two switchbacks that I had to gear all the way down and stand to get up but nothing like the "snake" felt so good to climb “real” hills and feel the legs burning again and of course the fast curvy down hills were a blast. Planed to ride again Sat, but only had time to get a short run in. Below is the ride map…
