A small but strong herd of three headed out at 9:00 am from OSB. Doc, Bob and Lanterne Rouge rolled south seeking dry roads and attempting to avoid the rain. The route took the crew out Downing St, over 795 and on to Shirley Rd, Wiggins Mill Rd, Boswellville Rd across 301 (NOTE: RR crossing is HORRIBLE you might even consider walking over it) on to Blalock Rd, 117, Church St and into Black Creek. Road were dry with cloudy skys and the group rolled along comfortably. Passing through Black creek and on to Woodbridge Rd and Frank Price Rd. on to Morningside Rd, the group took a scenic detour to locate SOCO on Slabtown Rd. Interesting place I think the web address is SOCONC.com. Back on Morningside Rd. across the RR back across 117 and on to Alton Rd, back over 795, As the group approaches Little Rock Church Rd and spots the rain in the distance. Bob comments that it does not look that bad. The rain begins and picks up as we turn on to Little Rock headed into Lucama. The peloton pulls into the gas station for some cover and a steady rain gets worse. Visibility drops as we talk about bikes and rides (shocking!) and generally enjoy the time. Then we hear thunder, next we see the lighting and hear thunder, this all get closer and the rain picks up even more. Doc calls for the Sag wagon. To the rescue comes Mary (Mrs. Doc) and pulls us back to Wilson and to safety. 25 miles at a steady 18 – 19 pace, only got wet at the end. After I get home I see the Tornado Warning for......the Black Creek area. Oh boy! A great ride all the same! Many thanks to Doc for the support services.
