This ride was the 2nd annual ride in honor of Raleigh PD's officers killed in the line of duty. A 50k and 100k.
Routes cover north Raleigh around the Falls Lake area - lots of hills. Anyway 100k group heads out rolling easy at 18-19 for a couple of miles or so. Everyone is jockeying to move past slower or inconsistent riders. the pace goes to 22 - 25 on the flat sections and 30 or so on the downhills. Group finally breaks up with about 15 or so of us in the lead group. We stay together rolling at a steady tempo (22 - 25) as the terrain allows. Group stays together until RS #3. A couple of us had to stop due to nature's call. Continued on solo only to find a turn was missed due to a missing sign removed by a landscape co and not put back (several others missed the same turn). Turned around and 4 miles later got back on route. Maintained a relative steady pace 21 or so on the flats but never caught up with any of the lead group drop-offs so the next 30+ miles was all solo. The significant climbs were in the first and last 20 miles as the route is a lollipop. Total mileage was 69 miles at a little under 20. DC, you would have like this ride. A good route to train for the BSG. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "CyclistsOfWilson-COWs" group. To post to this group, send email to [email protected].
