And don't forget Team CBC. I think it is a great group to ride with. The
weekly training rides on Sundays normally have three or four different
distances and usually two paces per distance. And the perks are hard to
beat.

It was a great weekend in New Bern. I did the 75 both days. And like
Steve, Ronnie's pace is beyond my capacity. Averaged 19.1 on the first day
and 19.6 the second with the help of a great paceline.

Hey Ronnie...I'm not from Wilson, at least NOW. I grew up there and rode
with CoWs earlier this year on surfdudes recommendation (we goofed off in HS
together and later surfed off at UNCW). Live in Raleigh now. Rode Bike MS
with Team Vin last year, but was "independent" this year. Had a few friends
(my wife and 2 others) to ride with.Did 75 Sat and 30 Sun. That was enough
for us. We almost joined Hibernian this year at the recommendation of a
friend, but decided to go indy this time. Maybe next year. Gotta train more
tho...22mph is too rich for us at this point.

+1 on the Hibernian rest stop that I saw...very nice. And I missed the
granola... :-(

Yep. All the volunteers were great! I'm a little biased but I was hearing
that our team (Hibernian) had the best rest stop (#2 Sat & Sun). My wife
(Colleen) made granola. She said it didn't last long.

I didn't know any other folks from Wilson were riding in the MS. (Steve) Do
you ride for a team? If so, which one?

I understand there were at least 2,500 checked in riders for the weekend.

Irene damage looked to be minimal for New Bern. They cleaned up the debris
very quickly. Lots of downed trees but very little damage to structures.
Hilton was flooded on the first floor from the surge. Down toward Oriental
it was a different story. The debris piled at the side of the roads showed
evidence of flooding: mattresses, furniture, insulation, etc. The route
pretty much skirts the water and all that area is low lying anyway. Folks
cheering us on from their porches didn't seem any worse for wear tho. I
suppose if you live down there, you realize storms are part of the package.

Took me a while but I finally figured out the " finished about 1:50" meant
1:50PM...not 1 hour and 50 minutes...a little slow on the uptake, but I got
it.

We were some of those "slow riders" you probably had to dodge and weave
around. And in the end, everybody got the same prize...

Great rides, well stocked rest stops and mostly friendly volunteers. Two
nice days to be on a bike for sure!

Another day in the saddle...

After the morning anouncements and moment of silence for 9/11, we have a
false start at 8:00 as the bridge was being pulled. Bridge down and off we
go. Everything starts out the same: faster riders dodging and weaving around
the slower riders. I again get with the lead group (about 30) which is
rolling at 25 - 26. Everyone stays together until RS #2 (mile 25) I drop off
to refill bottles (it was warmer than Sat) as hydration was going to be a
factor. (On Sat several riders suffered dehydration and the resulting heat
exhaustion). Another rider pulled off as well. We stay together for the next
20+ miles rolling 21 - 23 picking up others as we went. At the lunch stop we
had 6 or 7 riders in the group. After lunch we hooked up with another group
and had 15 - 20, some riding 75 others 100. From there we're rolling 21 -
24, half split for the 75 the rest of us on the 100. We pretty much stay
together for the remaining 55 miles or so riding at tempo. The group worked
very well together maintaining the pace without yo-yo'ing. the wind was not
as much a factor as it was Saturday. We all finish together about 1:50 with
varying averages depending on how we started. Mine was 21.87. None of us
stayed long at any rest stop, < 5 mins except for lunch <15 min.

Good ride, no crashes, well stocked rest stops.
